5 things to know about sachin tendulkar

Hot wheels
A self-confessed motorsport buff, Tendulkar loves cars. It comes as no surprise then that his own garage boasts an eclectic mix. Apart from the famous Ferrari 360 Modena that he was gifted with on completing his 29th Test century, Tendulkar’s fleet includes a BMW X5 M50d especially imported for the maestro, a BMW 7 Series 760Li, and a BMW M6 Gran CoupĂ©.

The foodie
Sachin is a hardcore seafood lover, especially fish (which he claims to eat about three times a week when he is at home). He can devour almost any kind of fish—Bombay duck, surmai, pomfret, lobsters and so on. He makes very good fish curry and fried fish himself, but the traditional Maharashtrian fried fish that his mother cooks is his favourite.

Movies and music
Amitabh Bachchan is his favourite actor, and
Sholay and Zanjeer amongst his favourite films. His own stint with movies includes a cameo in a 2003 Bollywood film, Stumped, where he played himself. According to reports, he is all set to star in a series of Virgin Comics as the superhero. Music-wise, he listens to Dire Straits, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

Sports fan
In F1, Tendulkar is an ardent admirer of Michael Schumacher. His love for the sport has often led to the Master Blaster attending races in India and abroad—whether it is the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida or the French GP at Magny-Cours. Tendulkar has followed tennis from the days of Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, is a regular at Wimbledon, and loves Roger Federer’s play. He also admires boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Favourite getaways
While Mumbai and London are his favourite cities in the world, Tendulkar loves to take off to places where he won’t be easily recognised. Mussoorie, in India, is his favourite holiday spot, and he often takes off to the hill station for a quiet time with family. In fact, having been his refuge away from the limelight many a time earlier, Mussoorie was the first place he headed to barely a week after his retirement from Test cricket. Iceland is said to be another favourite with the Tendulkars. According to mother-in-law Annabel Mehta, the family first visited Iceland because they “reckoned it was one place where they never played cricket”. But who doesn’t know Sachin Tendulkar? Although the family had a good time, the legendary batsman found fans who recognised him even there.
